Every traveller entering the UK now needs to take a PCR test within 48 hours of arrival in the UK. This is due to the new Omicron variant of COVID-19. So, before you ask yourself, “where can I get a cheap day 2 same-day PCR test near me in Manchester?” keep reading for more information.
When you arrive in the UK, you have two days to take a PCR test if you are planning to make a trip to the UK (Ireland excluded) from a foreign country. A lateral flow test can be taken instead if you are fully vaccinated.
Ensure you book the PCR test from a government-approved provider before the day of travel.
Whether you have been vaccinated or not, it’s required that you self-isolate while waiting for your results. You’ll only stop self-isolation if your result turns out to be negative.
If you are fully vaccinated, a COVID-19 PCR or lateral flow test will be required on the day of arrival or before day 2 after arrival to the UK. Should the test result turn out negative, you’ll immediately end your self-quarantine.
Suppose the test result turns out positive, you will have to quarantine for a period of 10 days, with day 0 being the day you took the test.
If your test result is inconclusive, you will also have to self-isolate for 10 days. You can decide to undergo another private PCR test.
If there is a delay with your test result, you will have to quarantine for the period you wait for the result or wait for 14 days from the day of arrival, whichever comes first.
You’ll be required to quarantine for 10 days, as well as taking day 2 and 8 PCR (not lateral flow) tests.
The quarantine period will begin the day you arrive in the UK and go for the next 10 days until the end of day 10. Going through that period is necessary because it can take up to 10 days for COVID-19 symptoms to show.
To keep count of the days:
– The day of arrival is day 0
– The day after arrival is day 1, and so forth
The at-home COVID-19 test kit is for travellers going abroad for work, holiday or study that need to show proof of a negative Covid test result.
The Fit to Fly PCR test is used to confirm your current coronavirus status. You will need to present the proof of your negative test result at the airport as your Fit to Fly certificate.
Depending on the country you are travelling to, you may have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 result prior to arrival. It’s recommended that you stay updated with the requirements of the country you’ll be visiting.
